We have been busy learning many new concepts and celebrating reading to end third quarter.
We had so much fun during Read Across America celebration week! We enjoyed celebrating reading as a class. Thank you to everyone who voted for our classroom door on Facebook. We were so excited to win the door contest. Enjoy some pictures from our week!
EXCITING NEWS!!
Our class reached our reading celebration goal of reading 5,040 minutes over the last 7 weeks through the Green Bay Bullfrog Reading Program. Be sure to order your tickets to enjoy our school family night game.
We began our poetry unit in writing. Our unit started by exploring figurative language and creating our own figurative language book. We will be writing Acrostic, Bio, Cinquain, Diamante, and Haiku poetry. Our class will be publishing our own poetry book through Studentreasures Publishing. Watch for more information and an ordering form to come home soon!
In reading, we are continuing to learn many strategies and skills in our guided reading groups. Students are working on reading Historical Fiction and Realistic Fiction genres. We are working on determining the theme of a text and increasing our vocabulary. In the fourth quarter, we will be exploring Fables, Tall Tales, and Legends.
In math, we started Unit 6 which focuses on geometry concepts. We will classify shapes, angles, and calculate the perimeter and area of a shape. Remember to keep practicing our multiplication and division facts to increase our fact fluency. Also, check our our XtraMath button on Miss. Agamaite's Homepage. Students are welcome to practice XtraMath at home.
We ended our Solar System Unit in science. We enjoyed being astronauts and traveling to each planet to gather information. We brought back many interesting facts and observations from our field trip to Barlow Planetarium to use in our Solar System Unit. Students learned many facts about our solar system. Last week, we left our astronaut job and became chemists. We began our Einstein Kit-Chemicals. Students are super excited to preform tests to determine what our unknown chemicals are. We discussed physical and chemical properties, and we will preforming 5 tests to help determine what our chemicals are.

Students received their mission to travel to planet Uranus and collect the specific comets. Inside the comets was information about planet Uranus. After finding all comets the astronauts launched back to planet Earth to share the information they discovered. Students enjoyed our pretend launch of the space shuttle, traveling around the classroom to locate comets, and pretending to launch back to planet Earth.
