The Christmas Season is upon us! Reminder to look in your child's expandable folder to see the note about our classroom gift exchange.
In reading, we are beginning to explore informational (non-fiction) texts. We are learning about the different genres of nonfiction texts as well as the different text features. In correspondence with reading informational texts, we are writing an informational text. In class, we are beginning to research about an animal and will progress through each step of writer's workshop to write an informational text about our animal.
In math, we finished Unit 2 on Wednesday. Everyone did a great job. I strongly encourage everyone to continue to practice multiplication and division facts at home. We will begin Unit 3 today. Unit 3 focuses on the different units of measure.
In Social Studies, we wrapped up our unit on communities. Students focused on their own community. In Science, we began our unit on Rocks and Minerals. Students are so excited and interested in exploring the rocks and minerals. We have so much fun! As geologist, we will perform different field tests on the minerals to determine characteristics of each mineral.
We are learning about Advent and preparing for Jesus's coming. Each student will make their own advent wreath in class and many other activities related to Advent. Our class will have mass parts December 12- 16. Watch for announcing sheets to come home the week before.
