MAPS testing is underway. We completed the reading and math portion of the test and will complete the language arts portion next week! I am so proud of everyone's hardwork and focus during the testing weeks.
In reading, we will begin to explore fables, tall tales, and legends. Students will be reading the genres in their guided reading groups. We will begin to do our Fountas and Pinnell testing for the last time this year within the next couple of weeks.
We celebrated our published poetry books in class this week! Students learned how to write numerous different types of poems. Students were creative in their poetry writing. Our next writing activity is focusing on writing letters. Students will learn the parts of friendly letters and the importance of letter writing. In this unit, we will be writing letters to children at St. Jude's Children Hospital. It is great academic learning as well as a great community service project. Students will be able to do an act of kindness to bring cheer to children their own age.
Last week we took our unit 6 math test and began our unit 7 on fractions. Students will be creating fractions and comparing fractions during the unit. We have many great activities planned to go along with our fraction unit. Students will take the "End of the Year" test and facts test for our spring testing within the next couple of weeks as well. Keep practicing multiplication and division facts to increase fact fluency.
We are soon going to wrap up our Chemical Einstein Kit in science. Students used their observations and testing to determine what the unknown chemicals are. We will then move to our next social studies unit to end the year.
Thank you to all the families that ordered our published poetry book through Studentreasures. It will be a great keepsake for the students for many years to come. We have earned a classroom copy! I will be sending it home with families who have not ordered a book, so everyone is able to enjoy the book. The books should be arriving within the next 2-3 weeks.
Reminder the AUCTION FROM THE HEART is this weekend at the Luxemburg Sportsmans' Club. We appreciate all the families and donors who helped make this huge fundraiser so successful for our school and parish.
